LAS Consultancy Celebrates a Decade of Creative Impact

By LAS Editorial Team November 2025 5 min read

Ten years ago, a small but ambitious PR team opened the doors of LAS Consultancy in Dar es Salaam with a simple vision: to prove that world-class creative communication could thrive in East Africa. Today, as we celebrate our first decade, we reflect on the journey—the challenges overcome, the milestones achieved, and the community we've had the privilege to serve. What began as a bold experiment has evolved into a full-service creative consultancy recognized across the region for strategic thinking, innovative campaigns, and measurable impact.

The Early Days: A Small Team with Big Ambitions

In 2015, Tanzania was still emerging as a business hub, and few believed that a locally-founded PR consultancy could compete on a continental stage. But LAS Consultancy's founding team saw opportunity in the gap—the absence of truly strategic communication partners who understood both local nuance and global best practice. Starting with just five people operating from a modest office, the team built the foundation for what would become one of East Africa's leading creative consultancies.

Those early years were defined by hustle, learning, and an unwavering commitment to quality. Every project was approached with the intensity of a campaign that could define the firm's future. There were long nights, limited resources, and the constant pressure to deliver excellence with minimal infrastructure. Yet it was precisely these constraints that instilled the discipline, resourcefulness, and client-centric approach that still define LAS today.

Key Milestones: Growth Through Great Work

The turning point came when we began securing larger accounts and delivering campaigns that moved the needle. In our third year, we won Hennessy as a client—a major international brand that demanded sophisticated strategic communication and flawless execution. The success of that partnership opened doors to KFC, Scania, and UNICEF, each bringing new challenges and raising the bar for what we could deliver.

Beyond client work, LAS made its mark through landmark events and initiatives. We produced the East Africa PR Summit, which became the region's premier gathering for communication professionals. We launched several award-winning campaigns that achieved recognition at international competitions. We expanded our service offerings from traditional PR into brand strategy, content creation, digital campaigns, and integrated communications. With each new capability, we reinforced our positioning as a full-service consultancy rather than a single-service agency.

The transition from a small PR firm to a multi-disciplinary consultancy wasn't about adding services—it was about deepening our understanding of what our clients truly needed and expanding our capacity to deliver transformative results.

Building the Team: From Five to Fifty

By year seven, we had grown to fifty talented professionals across multiple disciplines—strategists, creatives, account managers, researchers, and producers. This growth wasn't driven by a desire to become the biggest agency; it was driven by client demand and our commitment to maintaining quality while scaling impact.

More importantly, we invested deliberately in building a culture that attracted the best talent in the region. We offered competitive compensation, continuous learning opportunities, and a working environment where good ideas could come from anyone. We prioritized diversity of thought and background, recognizing that the most innovative solutions emerged from teams that reflected the communities we served.

Today, our team includes creatives from Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, and across Tanzania, bringing diverse perspectives to every challenge. It's a team that takes pride in their work, invests in their professional development, and genuinely believes in the impact of strategic communication.

Impact Beyond the Bottom Line: CSR and Community

From the beginning, LAS Consultancy recognized that success measured only in revenue and accolades would be incomplete. We established a commitment to using our skills and platform for social good. This materialized through our partnership with Smile Tanzania, an organization working to improve access to dental care for underserved communities. For the past five years, we've provided pro bono strategic communication and branding support, helping Smile Tanzania expand its reach and impact.

We're also proud members of the Global Giving network, supporting emerging nonprofits across East Africa with communication strategy and campaign development. Our team volunteers for community initiatives, participates in industry mentorship programs, and uses our platform to amplify voices and organizations driving positive change in the region.

This commitment to social responsibility isn't separate from our business—it's integral to who we are. We believe that consultancies have a responsibility to give back to the communities that support them.

What Sets LAS Apart: Our Creative Philosophy

After a decade, we've crystallized the principles that guide our work. First: strategy before creativity. We don't create for the sake of creating; every idea serves a strategic objective. Second: understanding before execution. We invest time in truly understanding our clients' businesses, their audiences, their challenges, and their aspirations before proposing solutions. Third: authenticity always. In a world saturated with marketing messages, authentic communication cuts through. We help clients communicate their truth, not some invented version.

Finally: measurement and accountability. We set clear objectives, track results, and hold ourselves accountable for delivering outcomes. This rigor is what separates strategic communication from mere activity.

Looking Ahead: The Next Decade

As we enter our second decade, we're more excited about the opportunities ahead than we were when we started. The digital transformation of East Africa is accelerating. New technologies are reshaping how brands communicate. The global appetite for authentic African perspectives has never been stronger. And the region continues to produce innovative companies and leaders worthy of the world's attention.

Our vision for the next decade is clear: to establish LAS Consultancy as the leading creative consultancy in East Africa, expanding our presence across the region while maintaining the quality, integrity, and client-centricity that built our reputation.

This means opening new offices in Kenya and Uganda. It means expanding our service offerings into areas like corporate advisory and organizational communication. It means investing more deeply in emerging technologies like AI while maintaining the human insight that makes communication effective. And it means continuing to attract and develop the best talent in the region.

But beyond the business metrics, our North Star remains unchanged: to help organizations in East Africa tell their stories effectively, build trust with their stakeholders, and achieve their missions. We do this because we believe that when communication works, everything else becomes possible.

To our clients who've trusted us with their brands and narratives—thank you. To our team members who've brought creativity, expertise, and passion to every project—you are LAS Consultancy. To the East African business community that has embraced and supported us—we're just getting started.

Here's to the next decade of creating impact together.
